"In the Loop" - March 20th

The Delta Chapter of Massachusetts of Upsilon Pi Epsilon at Salem State University hosted its second "In the Loop" event of this academic year today from 11:00AM to 12:30PM. Mr. Kevin Fisher (Class of 2012) from Checkbox Survey, Inc. was our guest speaker.
 
Mr. Fisher graduated with a BS in Computer Science from Salem State University in 2012. He has been working for Checkbox Survey, Inc, since. He has worked from as a web developer, to Jr. Software Engineer, to Project Manager/Engineer, and to Lead Software Engineer. He has a large amount of experience in managing development as well as developing for a small / start-up-like company.
 
Mr. Fisher talked about Web Development vs. Web Application Development. He discussed the pros and cons of the two. He mentioned that some students graduate and want to go off to work for medium or large size business. There are some interent risks working for small and/or startup companies. But, he mentioned, that there are also pretty outstanding benefits as well.
 
During the event, Mr. Fisher shared his work experiences with the current students. Students were very interested in talking to and discussing with Mr. Fisher. Students asked many questions. Mr. Fisher's answers were very informative to the studetns. Mr. Fisher also told the students that building a strong foundation in their undergraduate Computer Science study is very important. He specially emphasized the importance of being able to communicate well both verbally and written.
